The remodelling of this bright and lofty penthouse was commissioned by interior design duo Nicemakers, which ensures nothing but the highest quality in every aspect of the design.
Unique and pioneering in architecture, Pontsteiger is one of the largest and highest residential buildings in Amsterdam. This grand building touches the expanse of the IJ river and rises above the Houthaven. At an altitude of 60 meters, the imposing “bridge section” of eight floors begins, with views stretching all the way to the coast. The impressive dimensions and gleaming appearance of the building make it the city’s newest eye-catcher.
Pontsteiger is located on the eastern border of the Houthaven, one of the four ports that form the area called the Westelijk Havengebied. On the right side, the Silodam extends into the IJ river, and on the opposite side of the river, the NDSM wharf does the same. Pontsteiger is built on the exact spot where the ferry from the Houthaven to Amsterdam-Noord used to dock for many years.
This former timber harbour is being transformed into the city’s first climate neutral district. Characterized by a variety of building types and styles, this high-quality built environment offers abundant access to water and green spaces. The area will not only provide access to important services such as schools, daycares, and medical services, but also hostels, restaurants, and other commercial functions.

Layout

This unique penthouse offers 2-3 bedrooms, a private gym, sauna, and a yoga and meditation room. The sun flooded eat-in kitchen features a custom-made Arclinea kitchen with Calacatta marble worktop. The living area boasts an imposing custom-made marble dining table that was mindfully placed during construction. Furthermore, there is ample closet and storage space throughout the apartment.
This home consists of 415 m² of same-level, bright indoor and outdoor living space, including a patio of 31 m² and a balcony of 24 m². The large patio is included in the building’s volume and is protected by glass windscreens. As a subtle reference to the location’s history as timber docks, all exterior ceilings are clad in timber, giving the building a warm atmosphere.
